MJ,
I've seen it too. Your (and my) logic of a narrowed-down search giving <i>a fewer number</i> of hits obviously isn't Google's. <i>Critical thinking</i>: Instead of fighting it, it's only logical to try and understand it.<i>Creative thinking</i>: Google has expanded your search and is inviting you to see more and think more. Sometimes I get 1 million plus hits. Am I daunted by the number? Nope. I say display 100 at a time. I search for some promising ones within the page list, and then click. I may dive into 100, even 500, but only in a few seconds each time. If I like it, I note it in My Notebooks. (Did you notice My Notebooks? That's new Google logic. That's why Google is great!) That's what the Google list is for - browsing.

Your points on Google's search expertise are interesting as the reason I'm on this page at the moment is to research soemthing about that expertise.

I entered the google string:

unwilling meg smokers

and got 14,100 hits. Ouch! Too many for my purposes. So I narrowed it down by adding Melbourne:

unwilling meg smokers melbourne

Now... according to Google Logic, that SHOULD have reduced my number of hits significantly. INSTEAD I found that he more restrictive search gave me something over 15,000 hits.

Can anyone explain how/why this is possible? It's a phenomenon I've noticed a number of times before, but this is the first time I've gone out on the web (courtesy of course of Google) and entered

google logic hits (wrong OR error)

as a search string.

"The day on which you would see me in the clutches of the friars, do not waste time making petitions or uttering complaints or lamentations — it is useless. Try to put another in my place who may avenge me and make them pay dearly for my misfortune! If I would see a son of mine in the mouth of a shark, I would not try to pull him out — for it is useless and all I would achieve is to destroy him — I would kill the shark if possible, and if not, I would waylay him!"

-Dr. Jose Rizal to Mariano Ponce
Paris, 18th April 1889

"When the people is gagged; when its dignity, honor, and all its liberties are trampled; when it no longer has any legal recourse against the tyranny of its oppressors; when its complaints, petitions, and groans are not attended to; when it is not permitted even to weep; when even the last hope is wrested from its heart; then..! then..! then..! it has left no other remedy but to take down with delirious hand from the infernal altars the BLOODY and SUICIDAL DAGGER of REVOLUTION!!!"

Dr. Jose Rizal,
To Our Dear Mother Country, Spain, 10 October 1889

"Oh I tell you that our Catholic religion is no longer a religion of God; no I deny it. God ought not to be responsible for such a religion."

“I am readying myself for death. I am making arrangements for what I will leave behind and am preparing myself for any eventuality; Laong Laan is my real name. That is why I wish to finish the second volume of Noli at any cost and if it is possible, I do not wish to leave what I have begun without anyone to continue it…

May our compatriots there obey the voice of their heart and devote the precious time of their youth to something great, which is worthy of them. We do not have the good luck of other young men who can dispose of their time and their future.

We have upon as A DUTY; TO REDEEM OUR MOTHER FROM HER CAPTIVITY; our mother is pawned; WE MUST REDEEM HER before we amuse ourselves.”

-Dr. Jose Rizal to Marcelo H. del Pilar
Brussels, 11 June 1890

"It is a grievous consequence of hatred of the friars that my aged mother, who was so devout and pious, now does not want to believe any more. She says that everything is deceit, the friars have neither faith nor religion. She wants to believe only in God and the Virgin Mary, and nothing more. And like my aged mother so are my sisters, and like them are many women of the Philippines. Look, Spain, look, Catholicism, at the immediate consequence of your policy."

-Dr. Jose Rizal to Ferdinand Blumentritt

Hong Kong, 31 January 1892

---------------------

“We are children, we are the latestborn. But our hearts beats high, and tomorrow we shall be full-grown men who will know how to defend their hearts and homes. We are children, yes but nothing daunts us, neither wave nor storm or thunder. With strong right arm and unclouded brow WE SHALL KNOW HOW TO FIGHT IN THE HOUR OF DANGER. Our hands shall take up in turn those instruments of sovereign reason, the SWORD the pen, the SPADE!”

Comment on Religious vs Godly by JC

This comment from ""Art Tangal" seems ironic, since my opinion is distinctly the opposite.

On style:

On TBN, I see people dressed to the nines, with women covered in make-up.
On EWTN, I see a little of that, but I also see Mother Angelica, a nun in a full habit, condemning vanity.
On TBN, I hear constant calls for financial support. I see a number constantly posted on the screen as the number to call to make donations. I hear promises made for those who would offer such support.
On EWTN, I hear a simple, "put us between your gas and electric bill," with an occasional plea during tough times, but I am never hounded with solicitations. And the number posted on the screen is for people seeking help.

On substance:
On TBN, I hear a lot of shouting, hooting and hollering, and loud "praise music." I hear people preaching about faith healing, Jesus as the key to prosperty, and so on.
On EWTN, I hear theologians unpacking the mysteries of the Scriptures. I hear discussions of complex moral and ethical issues from an intellectual perspective.

On TBN, I hear self-appointed preachers declaring their personal understandings to be the true Gospel.
On EWTN, I hear the consistent voices of people who preach merely what has been "handed down" (traditio) to them, as St. Paul teaches in 1 Timothy.

As far as whose lives are more truly transformed in Christ, viewership is one thing, but consider the lifestyle (and annual income) of the Crouches, Benny Hinn, and company.
Then consider the lifestyles of EWTN's hosts. Deacon Bill Steltemeier makes about $72,000 a year as chairman. Michael Warsaw makes about $86,000 as president of the network. The Crouches' combined income is over $700,000.

Which is more indicative of transformation in Christ, Who taught His followers to give everything away to the poor, to live with minimal food, clothing and shelther?

(1) You can visit icrisat.org/
(2) Dr Dar will be in the Philippines any day now and I will tell him about your comment.
(3) I actually wrote 2 articles about ICRISAT for American Chronicle. The other was about 'Discovery Sorghum.'
(4) You can email me frankahilario@gmail.com if you need further help.

where can i get more details about icrisat's work under Dar? And if he has been propagating the cause for 7 years, is it that the world has only started realising and accepting his wisdom recently? would really appreciate if you could help/clarify.

I hope you do have a link (or is it just me? I can't find the same) that says something about yourself, so readers will know where your ideas are coming. Very rich and intellectual, I must say.
